Mark Cutifani has more than 46 years of international senior-leadership experience, giving him a multi-industry knowledge in mining, industrial and commodities, and luxury goods. He brings experience as Chair and CEO of FTSE 100, London Stock Exchange, Sydney, Johannesburg and Swiss Stock Exchange companies.

Mark Cutifani is Chair of Vale Base Metals, Independent Director of TotalEnergies, and Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of Laing O’Rourke. He is also Adviser at Diamond Standard Inc. He was until recently also the Chair of De Beers Group of Companies and a Non-Executive Director of Anglo American Platinum Ltd.

Mark was CEO of Anglo American plc from 2013 until 2022. He has considerable experience in mining, having been associated with the industry since 1976, and has a practical working knowledge of most of the commodities produced and sold across the globe.

Mark has had line experience and responsibility for mining and industrial businesses across six continents. Prior to joining Anglo American, he held the position of CEO at AngloGold Ashanti in South Africa. Before then, he was the COO for Inco and then Vale’s global nickel business based in Canada.

Prior to his Vale, role Mark held Senior Executive positions with the Normandy Group, Sons of Gwalia, Western Mining Corporation, Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines and CRA (Rio Tinto). He is also Chair of Power of Nutrition, Chair of the Global Advisory Council for the Global Foundation, and Co-Founder of the Development Partner Institute. Mark is a mining engineer by training with several published papers and presentations.
