Daniel Mminele is a distinguished South African banker with over 30 years of experience. Daniel brings extensive experience in financial markets, governance, and business transformation, with a proven track record in modernisation and digitalisation.

Daniel is an Independent Non-Executive Director at Nedbank Group Ltd and Nedbank Ltd, having been appointed Chair in June 2023. Additionally, he serves as a Non-Executive Director at the Youth Employment Service (RF) NPC.

Daniel has held prominent leadership roles, including Chair of Alexander Forbes Group Holdings Limited and Alexander Forbes Investments Ltd, and was the Chief Executive of ABSA Group and ABSA Bank Ltd. He also served two terms as Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), overseeing financial markets, international economic relations and policy, as well as the Human and Operations Cluster.

His early career included roles at African Merchant Bank, Commerzbank in South Africa, and WestLB in the UK and Germany, specialising in corporate credit risk analysis, project finance, and structured finance.

In 2022, Daniel led the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team, driving the Just Energy Transition Partnership and the development of the Just Energy Transition Investment Plan. For 2025 Daniel is chairing the B20 Task Force on Energy Mix and Just Transition.

Daniel is on the Board of Directors of Salzburg Global Seminar, an organisation dedicated to challenging current and future leaders to shape a better world.

In 2018, Daniel was honoured with Germany's Great Order of Merit for his efforts in strengthening German-South African relations and has also received a Lifetime Achiever Award from ABSIP.
