Overview

Sir Peter Bazalgette has over 40 years of experience in the creative industries and multi-industry knowledge in broadcasting, television, advertising, media, digital media and venture capital. He has a strong track record of successfully managing creative businesses allied with deep commercial skills.

Sir Peter is Chancellor of the University of the West of England and Chair of Lovecrafts Group Ltd, a venture-backed e-commerce company. Additionally, Sir Peter is a Non-Executive Director of the UK Department of Education and BusinessLDN, and sits on the board of Creative UK. Previously, Sir Peter was Pro-Chancellor of the Royal College of Art.

Sir Peter is also Chair of the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-fiction (the Samuel Johnson Prize prior to 2015) and a Council member of Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge.

For 20 years, Sir Peter has been an investor in digital businesses, including the global online market researcher, YouGov, where he was on the Board for 10 years.

He wrote a review of the UK Creative Industries which became part of the government’s industrial-growth strategy, and while at Endemol he created hit TV formats which were exploited internationally (the basis of his 2005 book, “Billion Dollar Game”).

Sir Peter’s 2017 book, “The Empathy Instinct”, explores why people do and do not get on and contains insights about how to handle colleagues and Boards.

Sir Peter was knighted in 2012 for his services to broadcasting. In 2023 he was awarded the Sunday Times’s FTSE All-Share Non-Executive of the Year.
