Peter has been Chair of ABB’s Board of Directors since 2015. He also previously served as ABB’s CEO, and as a member of the Executive Committee and as CFO and EC member. He is also Group Chair of the Board of Directors of Temasek’s subsidiary PSA International Pte Ltd (Singapore).

Before returning to ABB as Chair, Peter was CEO of Royal Dutch Shell from 2009 to 2013, and CFO and Executive Director of Royal Dutch Shell. He began his career at Royal Dutch Shell in 1982 and held several senior-management and Executive roles in Europe and Latin America, including CFO of Shell Europe Oil Products, CFO of the Global Oil Products Business and member of the Oil Products Executive Committee.

Peter is Independent Director of IBM Corporation (US), and of Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd (Singapore). He is also a member of the Asia Business Council and Chair of the Board of the St Gallen Foundation for International Studies and of Europe Delivers, a business-led partnership working to build future-fit growth in Europe. In June 2019, he was made an Honorary Director of Catalyst, a non-profit organisation which champions women leaders.

Peter has served as a Board member of Roche Holding Ltd, Switzerland, of the Swiss Federal Auditor Oversight Authority, of UBS, and as a member of the Supervisory Board of Aegon NV in the Netherlands (2004–2006).

He obtained his degree in business administration from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland. In 2011, Peter was awarded the title Dato Seri Laila Jasa by His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei in recognition of services to the state of Brunei.

In 2021, he was awarded the title Honorary Citizen of Singapore by the Singapore Government, which is the highest form of national recognition for a non-Singaporean.
