Overview

Alan Hippe is a business leader holding dual German and Swiss citizenship, recognised for steering Roche’s financial and digital transformation as Group Chief Financial and Information Officer from 2011 to 2025. Alan has been central to advancing the Group’s data-driven operating model, embedding technology innovation into healthcare delivery, and ensuring long-term capital discipline across Roche’s pharmaceuticals and diagnostics divisions.

As of February 2025, reflecting the advance of AI and technology, the Informatics function was re-established as RDT (Roche Digital Technology), a new, dedicated function with its own leadership role. With this change, Alan continues to oversee Group Finance, Global Procurement, and Roche Services Solutions. Additionally, he remains a member of the Corporate Executive Committee and the executive sponsor of ASPIRE, Roche’s enterprise-wide business transformation program, harmonising core processes onto a single digital backbone and standardized IT system to create one source of truth for data.

Before joining Roche, Alan gained extensive executive and global experience in different sectors, including the airport, automotive, and multiple other industries. He was Group CFO of ThyssenKrupp AG and a member of its executive board, where he led a multi-year restructuring that repositioned the group for global competitiveness. Earlier in his career, he was CFO of Continental AG, driving expansion into North America and establishing the company as a global leader in automotive technology. He also held roles at Voith GmbH, as a member of the Shareholders’ Committee and the Supervisory Board, as well as Head of the Audit Committee.

He brings deep cross-sector expertise in:

• Finance & Performance Transformation: Driving large-scale global transformations by engineering structural, digital, and capital efficiency programs that forge resilient, high-growth organisations.

• Technology & Data Innovation: Accelerating R&D and patient-centric healthcare solutions by strategically embedding cutting-edge digital and AI-enabled systems into core enterprise operations.

• Global Leadership & Governance: Providing strategic command in highly regulated, science-led industries, with proven global expertise directing corporate strategy, complex risk management, and sustainability reporting.

Alan graduated with distinction from the University of Mannheim with a degree in Business Administration. He also holds a doctorate from the University of Mainz (summa cum laude).

Alan fosters collaboration across scientific, technological, and financial disciplines, balancing an entrepreneurial mindset with the analytical skills required in a complex, regulated environment. His pragmatic leadership style is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of compliance while sustaining Roche’s position as one of the world’s most trusted healthcare companies.
