Helge is Chair of BP plc, a position he has held since 2019 and will step down from in October 2025. He is also Chair of Novo Nordisk the global pharmaceutical and life sciences company. Helge is an Independent Director at Belron Group SA and at P/F Tjaldur. He is an Operating Partner with Clayton Dubliner & Rice and a Trustee of the International Crisis Group.

He was a Non-Executive Director of Schlumberger, adding upstream and services-sector insight to one of the world’s largest oilfield technology providers. He was an Independent Director at Nokia OYJ and Shtokman Development AG

Prior to his CEO role at Equinor, Helge was CEO at Aker Kværner and BG Group. He had executive positions in Aker RGI ASA, an industrial holding company, and Nycomed Pharma AS, an industrial group with business activities in pharmaceuticals and energy. He was a Consultant for McKinsey & Co., and a Political Adviser to the parliamentary group of the Conservative Party in Norway.

He brings deep cross-sector expertise in:

Helge has a degree in economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and an MBA from INSEAD.
